Abstract

[Also in Division B2] A support for a useful mass, e.g. a trough 1, of a vibrating machine for conveying or sieving loose granular material includes a rigid member 18 located between rubber members 16, 17 and mounted on resilient supports 19. Rigid plates 15 are secured to a counter-mass 2 and a thrust section 14 is secured to the useful mass 1. A rubber member 13 is provided between the upper plate 15 and the thrust section 14. The relative dimensions and resilience of the rubber members 16, 17 in relation to the ratio of the useful mass 1 and the counter-mass 2 are so chosen that vibration of the masses 1, 2 results in zero net shear force on the member 18. A formula is given relating heights of parts of the rubber member 13, the amplitudes of vibration of the members 1, 2 and the masses of these members. A further formula relates the stiffness of the rubber members 16, 17 to the masses of the members 1, 2.
