Abstract

1406269 Vibratory sieving apparatus B LONGTHORN and J ELLIOT 9 Nov 1973 [14 Nov 1972] 52562/72 Heading B2H A sieving apparatus comprises a sieve carrier 4, means for imparting vibratory motion to the carrier, a sieve frame 30, resilient means, e.g. rubber strips, 26-29 and 35, 36 interposed between the frame, and carrier and supporting the frame in the carrier, an ultrasonic generator 39-40, and means 38, 41, 42 coupling the generator to the frame. The carrier 4 is mounted by means of metal springs or wood or plastics laminations 3 on a base 1 having anti-vibration support pads and is oscillated by a motor 5 through a pendulum linkage. The frame 30 supporting a sieve 37 e.g. made of cloth, plastics or woven wire, is welded to a coupling boss 38 which is connected to the output member 39 of an ultrasonic transducer 40 by way of a stud 41 and a copper washer 42. Mounted albove the carrier is a feed hopper 45 having an adjustable outlet gate 46 and provided with a vibrator in the form of an air pulser, an electromagnetic vibrator or an ultrasonic generator. Undersize material passing through the sieve 37 falls on to a base plate 14 of the carrier 4 and is transported by virtue of vibratory motion to an outlet 19. The oversize material travels along the wire sieve to a discharge plate 17 and an outlet 18. The apparatus is suitable for sieving fine material such as talc, flour, milk powder, cocoa and gum acacia, the ultrasonic vibrations preventing the sieve from being dogged.
