Abstract
1,240,246. Hydrocarbon cracking catalyst composites. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. 28 March, 1969 [1 April, 1968], No. 16266/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C5] An activated cracking catalyst composite which comprises from 1 to 25 weight per cent of crystalline aluminosilicate and correspondingly from 99 to 75 weight per cent of catalytically active siliceous matrix, which composite has been rendered catalytically active by drying and calcining, is heated in the absence of added steam at a temperature above 1300‹F but below the thermal destructive temperature of the crystalline aluminosilicate, for example at a temperarture of from 1400‹F to 1700‹F, preferably of from 1400‹F to 1550‹F, in order to increase catalytic cracking activity, selectivity and attrition resistance. The crystalline aluminosilicate, which may be natural or synthetic and which has been treated to replace all or at least a substantial proportion of the alkali metal ions with other cations, has the general formula M 2 O.Al 2 O 3 .xSiO 2 .yH 2 O wherein M represents hydrogen and/or a metal or metals, for example magnesium, calcium, barium, manganese or rare earth metals (for example yttrium, lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium and samarium), n is the valency of M, x has a value of from 1 to 10 and y has a value of from 0 to 10. Exemplified crystalline aluminosilicates are faujasite, mordenite, zeolite X and zeolite Y. Exemplified siliceous matrices are silica gel, silica-beryllia, silica-magnesia, silica-alumina, silica-titania, silica-zirconia and silica-thoria; alternatively, the siliceous matrix may be a synthetic or semi-synthetic or natural clay-type aluminosilicate. A preferred composite consists of from 1 to 25 weight per cent of crystalline aluminosilicate and from 10 to 50 weight per cent of alumina, the balance being silica. Examples disclose composites in which the crystalline aluminosilicate contains both lanthanum and cerium.
