Abstract
West Texas heavy gas oil is cracked at 495 DEG C. in the presence of a zeolitic catalyst made by heating a SiO2-Al2O3 catalyst containing 5-45% of Al2O3 to 30-100 DEG C. in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide or nitrogenous base until the formation of tetrahedral units of alkali metal or nitrogenous aluminosilicate is substantially complete and thereafter removing residual basic material. Prior to its use as a cracking catalyst it may be steam activated. Catalyst to oil ratio was 4 and weight hourly space velocity 5. Tabulated comparative catalyst efficiency is disclosed.ALSO:A zeolitic catalyst is made by heating a SiO2-Al2O3 catalyst containing 5-45% of Al2O3 to 30-100 DEG C. in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide or nitrogenous base until the formation of tetrahedral units of alkali metal or nitrogenous aluminosilicate is substantially complete and thereafter removing residual basic material. The source of the SiO2-Al2O3 catalyst may be a natural clay or a synthetic mixture which may be unmodified or mixed with clay, MgO or ZrO2. The base may be NaOH, pyridine, piperidine or a quarternary ammonium hydroxide. The zeolite may be substituted with Ca\s4, Mg\s4 on a R.E. cation. Physical properties of the catalyst, e.g. surface area and pore volume are described. Prior to cracking the catalyst may be steam activated.
