A thermally insulating interlining 11 for a protective jacket comprises one or more layers of insulating material in the form of a jacket, preferably sleeveless, a slit 12 being provided across each shoulder portion which extends from an armhole 13 or cuff to the neck opening 15 of the jacket, and an attachment means, preferably a separate fastener element, e.g. interengageable pile fabric tabs 16a, 16b, operate to join the opposed slit edges together. The interlining is preferably formed in combination with a double skinned garment of waterproof material, e.g. coated nylon, the inner skin 22 and the outer skin 21 being marginally joined. The garment is provided with further attachment means, preferably interengageable pile fabrics, adapted to removably receive an interlining. The outer body skin 21 may be formed from an upper element 21a forming shoulders and sleeves of the cutter skin, and a lower element 21b forming the remainder of the skin, the two elements being joined by a single line of stitching which may be treated internally with waterproof dope. The interlining, which may be of foamed plastics material and textile covered, is positioned between the skins by insertion at the lower marginal edges 23, 24. The inner body skin 22 comprises a single element having inner sleeve skins 27 attached to the outer skin at cuffs 28 so that seams 26 in the outer skin are not co-incident with seams 29 in the inner skin. Openings at the lower marginal edges 23, 24 and scallops 36 at the cuffs allow air circulation between the skins.
