Abstract
1,239,539. Anti-skid braking systems. KNORR-BREMSE G.m.b.H. 22 May, 1970 [23 May, 1969], No. 25025/70. Heading F2F. An anti-skid regulating device, for a compressed air braking system, comprises a duct connection between a brake cylinder 3 and a source of compressed air 8 via lines 2, 4, 7, pressure release means, constituted by an outlet valve 16, a stepped piston 17, an auxiliary piston 18 and air-venting valve 19, operable in dependence upon a skid senser 14 to close the said connection and bring about a rapid lowering of pressure in the cylinder 3 when a skid is sensed upon attainment of a first braking pressure, and to re-open the connection when the skid ceases so as to allow a second braking pressure to be attained rapidly in the brake cylinder, the device maintaining the second pressure throughout an intermediate braking period and allowing an additional rise of pressure at the end of that period, the second braking pressure being less than the first and being determined by movement of the stepped piston 17. The duration of the intermediate braking period is determined by passage of air through throttling means comprising a nozzle 50.
