Abstract

1321443 Antiskid braking systems WESTINGHOUSE BREMSEN-UND APPARATEBAU GmbH 2 Sept 1970 [3 Sept 1969] 42006/70 Heading F2F In a vehicle antiskid braking system a variable, such as wheel deceleration, indicating a skidding threshold is measured by a detector 2 and upon attainment of a predetermined critical value braking pressure is lowered and then after a predetermined lapse of time raised, the brake pressure rise being slowed down in dependence on the brake pressure effective upon attainment of the critical value so that the slowing down is more pronounced at lower effective brake pressures than at higher effective brake pressures. The detector 2, when the skidding threshold is reached, closes a circuit 3 to energize a solenoid valve 4 controlling the supply of compressed air from a reservoir 18 to the control chamber 24 of a multiway valve 1 having working chambers 6, 7, 8, 9 and a control slide 10 of which control faces together with faces of the casing form a brake pressure control throttle 12, 14 and a counter-pressure control throttle 13, 15. A device 26 for actuating the throttles comprises a housing 27 attached to housing 5 of valve 1 and includes an actuating piston 28 and a correcting piston 34 connected to a pin 37 which determines the limit of movement of the control slide 10. When the brakes are applied piston 34 is acted upon by a pressure equal to the effective brake pressure and the pin 37 is thus advanced in dependence on the effective brake pressure prevailing when the detector 2 responds and the pin assumes a more advanced position with low effective pressures than with high effective pressures.
