Abstract

1345852 Valves; anti-skid braking systems FIAT SpA 20 July 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 33988/72 Headings F2V and F2F A valve for throttling the flow of fluid to a brake during skidding has an inlet 12 connected to an outlet 14 by a flow restrictor 22 and a passageway 18 which is closable by a valve member 24 responsive to the pressure in a control chamber 44 connected to the inlet 12 by a restrictor 50. In use when pneumatic braking pressure is applied to the inlet by a distributer valve the valve member allows unrestricted communication between the inlet and outlet and pressure gradually builds-up in the control chamber 44. When an anti-skid system releases the brakes and reduces outlet pressure, control chamber pressure moves the valve member 24 to close passage 18 so that when the anti-skid system reapplies the brakes the braking pressure in the outlet is built-up again only via restrictor 22, the valve member 24 remaining closed. The valve member can open again only on normal release of the brakes via the distributer valve. The valve member 24 is made of rubber and has a metal backing plate 28 secured thereto and formed with two perpendicularly disposed grooves 30, 32 which allow communication of the control chamber 44 with the inlet when the valve member is fully open against stop surface 46.
