Abstract

1,239,005. Making multi-layer cylindrical anodes; jointing. SIEMENS A.G. 17 Sept., 1969 [1 Oct., 1968], No. 45920/69. Addition to 1,117,988. Headings B3A and B3V. In a modification of the process of U.K. Specification No. 1,117,988 a niobium cylinder 1 is coated with a metal layer 5 having good wetting properties for and a lower melting point than the niobium, an insulating coating of alumina, beryllia or zirconia is applied thereto, a second metal layer 6 similar to layer 5 is applied to the insulating coating and an outer niobium tube 2 shrunk on to the assembly. The layers 5 and 6 are preferably composite layers of copper adjacent the niobium and an alloy Ni 80 /Cr 20 adjacent the insulating coating. The layers may be applied by plasma spraying. The copper layers may be applied by electrodeposition.
