The novel compound 2-N,N-bis(#-cyanoethyl)amino - sulphinyl - benzothiazoles and other sulphinamides of the general formula in which R and R<SP>1</SP> are alkyl, cycloalkyl or cyanoalkyl groups or together represent an alkylene radical, are prepared by oxidizing with an alkali metal hypochlorite at temperatures below 30‹ C. an aqueous suspension of a sulphenoamide of the formula It is preferred to effect the oxidation in the presence of an alkaline agent, e.g. Na 2 CO 3 or NaHCO 3 , to maintain the pH at 9-10. Examples describe the preparation of dimethylamino-, morpholino-, piperidino-, diisopropylamino-, bis(#-cyanoethyl) - amino -, 2,6 - dimethylmorpholino -, dicyclohexylamino - and hexamethyleneimino-sulphinyl benzothiazoles. 2 - N,N - dimethyl benzothiazole - sulphenamide is obtained by reacting dimethylamine with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole in the presence of NaClO.
