Abstract

1,238,184. Tension control, sizing machines. LEESONA Ltd. 10 April, 1969 [18 April, 1968], No. 18376/68. Heading D1M. As yarn is pulled from an inlet beam 10 of a sizing machine its tension is measured by a pivoted tension meter 12, 35 whose amplified output is fed to one half of a magnetic slipping clutch 28, 29 to alter the slippage of the clutch to maintain constant yarn tension as the beam diameter decreases. The beam is connected to a chain 26a driving a sprocket 27a on a hollow shaft 27 having fixed thereto a sun gear 38b, one half 28 of the magnetic clutch and containing a shaft 39 having fixed thereto a ring gear 38, cooperating with the sun gear 38b via planetary gears 38c freely mounted on the shaft 27 and driving a chain 29d which drives the other half 29 of the magnetic clutch which is freely mounted on the shaft 27 and carries a sprocket 33 connected to the output of an infinitely variable gear which drives the clutch half 29. The planetary gear 38c is connected to the control wheel of the infinitely variable gear. In use the tension meter output is fed to the clutch so that the half 28 driven by the beam is driven some 2% faster than the half 29 driven by the infinitely variable gear. As let of continues the tension increases, the clutch half 28 is driven faster and the output from the tension meter alter the magnetic clutch so that it is driven faster to maintain constant tension by causing the planetary to rotate and alter the setting of the infinitely variable gear driving the clutch half 29.
