Abstract

1,238,169. Packaging-machines. SATAKE. 11 July, 1969 [11 July, 1968], No. 35179/69. Heading B8C. In an apparatus for packaging materials in bags formed from heat sealable flat tubing which is fed from a supply roll 16, over rollers 17-20, past a transistor sensor 91 to a seam welder 22 and cutter 23 where the leading end, having been transversely welded by the welder 22, is gripped by two laterally spaced jaws 59 of a two-arm pivotal lever mechanism 62, pulled downwardly the length of a bag 88, and severed by the cutter 23 as the successive bag is welded at the base and the jaws 59 are released, the bag 88 is gripped at both sides by the respective jaws 36, 38 of a pair of oppositely facing, laterally spaced, parallelogram linkages 27, 30, Fig. 4a. Then the latter are swung horizontally through arcs from a position a, Fig. 8, beneath the cutter 23, to a position b beneath a feed hopper 10 approaching one another so that the top of the bag is slackened. Suction pads 78, 79, mounted on the outlet 10 of a feed hopper 8-13, are then fed with vacuum, and drawn apart by a linkage 80 operated by a solenoid 81, to pull open the mouth of the bag 88 and allow filling from material previously weighed by a weighing mechanism 83-86 which is supplied from an upper hopper 87. When filling has been completed, the jaws 36, 38 proceed, in their curved paths, from the position b to a position c, the jaws 36, 38 of the two parallelogram linkages moving further apart to pull the mouth of the bag taut again for sealing by welding members 77 which are operated by the solenoid 81. The tubing carries printed marks at constant intervals, the operation of the feed rollers 21, being controlled by the transistor sensor 91 in accordance with the position of these marks. Concentric spindles 25, 25<SP>1</SP> on each bracket 24, Fig. 4, when rotated by respective levers 46, 47 through cam mechanism, not shown, respectively rotate the arm 27 of the associated parallelogram linkage, which includes a carrying member 33 for the jaws 36, 38, and move the jaw 38 with respect to the jaw 36 on the carrying member 33 through a linkage 40, 43. The bellcrank lever mechanism 62 is operated by a double cam 68, 69, the cam 69 co-operating with a roller 64 at the corresponding end of the lever 62 to reciprocate the latter up and down and the cam 68 moving a roller 104 which, through linkages 65, 66 and 53, 57, 58 opens and closes the jaws 59 in proper sequence to feed open topped bags to the jaws 56, 58 of the parallelogram linkages. A cradle 74 to receive each sealed container is carried by a lever mechanism which is vertically reciprocable by a linkage 72 worked by a cam 70, the cradle being tiltable by means of a solenoid 75.
