Abstract

1,237,412. Glass solder. SIEMENS A.G. 19 Dec., 1968 [28 Dec., 1867], No. 54176/68. Heading ClM. A glass solder consists essentially of (A) a glassy first material whose softening point is 280-350‹ C.; and (B) a glassy or ceramic second material of linear expansion coefficient up to 30 x 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹ C. and softening point higher than that of (A); there being in the solder at least 30% by volume of (A) and up to 70% by volume of (B) and there being sufficient material (B) for the solder to have an expansion coefficient of 50-85 x 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹ C., neither (A) nor (B) containing Tl 2 O or CdO. Preferably, (A) has a particle size up to 100 Ám and (B) a particle size of up to 200 Ám. (A) is preferably chosen from the glass systems PbO-B 2 O 3 -SiO 2 , PbO-B 2 O 3 -ZnO and PbO-B 2 O 3 -ZnO-BaO. The second material may be #-eucryptite (Li 2 O.Al 2 O 3 2SiO 2 ), spodumene (Li 2 O.Al 2 O 3 .4SiO 2 ), cordierite, quartz, hard glass, a borate (e.g. lead borate) or a titanate (e.g. lead titanate). The solder may be formed simply by mixing (A) and (B) in comminuted form.
