Abstract
1,237,409. Measuring dew point. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE. Aug. 5, 1968 [Aug.4, 1967], No.37192/68. Heading G1S. Apparatus for measuring the dew point of a gas at high values of relative humidity comprises a gas pressure regulator 3 controlled by a manometer 4, a condensation hygrometer 2, a meter 7 keeping the rate of flow of gas constant, a valve member 6 producing a pressure drop, and a pump 5 keeping the gas at constant pressure through a line 8. Since the dew point of a gas containing water vapour is directly proportional to the pressure, then if the pressure is reduced the dew point is reduced. In the method of the invention the partial pressure of the water vapour present in the gas is reduced in the hygrometer by the apparatus above from say 500 mm Hg in Fig.2, point a, to say 100 mm Hg, point b, so that the dew point will be reduced from 90‹C. to 52‹C. which is within practical measuring range of current hygrometers.
