Abstract
1,237,141. Conveyers; ingot grabs. METALLURGIE HOBOKEN. 22 May, 1968, No. 24408/68. Headings B8A and B8H. [Also in Division B3] In an ingot casting machine the ingots 11 are ejected from a mould 2 and conveyed by a grab 10 to a cooling tank through which the ingots are conveyed by a pair of endless chains 24. The ingot 11 is raised to an inclined position by a rod 12. The grab 10 is lowered by a fluid motor 4, 5 on a movable trolley 16 and the grab arms 33 are pulled together by a tie bar 32 operated by a fluid motor 7, 8, 9 to grip the ingot 11 (see Figs. 5a, 5b). The ingot is raised by fluid motor 4, 5 and the movable trolley shifted horizontally to a position 17 above a cooling tank 21. The grab is lowered to immerse the ingot into the tank and the grab arms 33 extended to release the ingot. Lugs (not shown) on the ingot engage links in two endless chains 24. A guide 25 aligns the ingots in the tank. The chain conveyer is driven by a fluid motor 26, 27 acting through a ratchet and pinion 28.
