Abstract

Continuous casting machine has an ingot mould, guide rollers along a path passing from the vertical through a curved section to the horizontal, a starter bar leading the casting through the rollers. and appts. following the curved rollers for detaching the starter bar from the leading end of the casting. A starter bar recovery bridge has its reception end adjacent to the starter bar detaching appts; a track starts from the outlet end of the bridge and leads to a point close to and above the ingot mould; a loading carriage is mobile along the track between posns. adjacent the bridge and the ingot mould; appts. on the bridge propels the starter bar from the detaching appts. to the carriage; and appts. on the carriage lowers the starter bar into the ingot mould.
