Abstract

1,236,715. Joining floating ball sections. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 12 Dec., 1969 [13 Dec., 1968], No. 60850/69. Heading B7S. A caisson for working on a hull, e.g. for joining two hull sections, comprises two sections 3<SP>1</SP> hinged at 8 and provided with an access passageway 9 open to the hull, and sealing means for making the passageway watertight. Bouyancy tanks formed in the caisson are flooded and vented to control the submersion and pivoting of the caisson for engaging and disengaging the hull, cables 16, 16<SP>1</SP> preventing movement when engaged. In Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), a corner section is pivoted to the side and bottom sections of the caisson, sealing bellows being provided at the joints between the sections. In Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), at least one of the side sections of the caisson is adjustable relative to the bottom section to accommodate hulls of different beams. A pair of sealing members are disposed on either side of passageway 9 with drain holes leading from the space between each pair, Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown).
