Abstract
1,236,416. Tracer compositions. SOC. NATIONALE INDUSTRIELLE AEROSPATIALE. 9 July, 1968, No. 32679/68. Heading C1D. [Also in Division F3] A missile is provided with an infra-red, smokeless, tracer device, 1, formed as a flat ring comprising two segments 2, 3 arranged symmetrically round the centre O, of the discharge nozzle 7. The segment casings 2, 3 are compartmented into cells, 4a, 5a and 6a and 4b, 5b and 6b which contain the pyrotechnic charges. The partitions separating the cells are formed of asbestos and are provided with orifices. Firing is effected simultaneously at 8 and 9 and combustion is transferred between the cells through the orifices to effect a predetermined emission power/time programme. The casings are formed of layers of quartz and glass fabric impregnated with a thermostable resin. The charges stored in the cells comprise zirconium, boron, aluminium, barium chromate, silicon carbide and silicon boride or anhydrous thoria.
