Abstract
1,236,185. Continuous casting. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 9 Feb., 1970 [7 March, 1969], No. 6094/70. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F4] A pouring spout 10 for use in a groovedwheel-and-belt continuous casting machine is an elongated nozzle 12 with a heater 20 disposed about it for controlling the temperature and vanes (30) for inhibiting vortex movement of the molten metal through the nozzle body. As shown, the heater comprises a plurality of kidney-shaped electrical resistance heating elements in an annular compartment 19. In the casting of copper, the spout is formed of a composition of silicon carbide (80%) and carbon, silicon nitride, silica, iron oxide and aluminium oxide.
