Abstract
1,234,049. Epoxide - N - methyltaurine condensation products. ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO. 18 June, 1968 [24 Aug., 1967], No. 29049/68. Heading C2C. Alkali metal salts of epoxide - N - methyltaurine condensation products which have been produced by the condensation of a crude C 12-18 1,2 - epoxy - alkane with an alkali metal salt of N - methyl - taurine, are purified by converting to the acid form, separating from the reaction mixture, washing to remove impurities and then reconverting to the alkali metal form. The acid form is preferably washed successively with water, with methanol or acetone and with a mixture of methanol or acetone with hexane and then contacted with dilute alkali metal hydroxide solution. In an example a C 16 -1,2- epoxide - N - methyltaurine condensation product, Na salt is purified. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,009,189.
