Abstract

1,234,008. Polysulphones. INVENTA A.G. FUR FORSCHUNG UND PATENTVERWERTUNG. 30 July, 1969 [31 July, 1968], No. 38338/69. Heading C3R. Linear aromatic polysulphones having units of formula -Ar-SO 2 - where the radicals Ar may be the same or different along the chain and are aromatic hydrocarbon or heterocyclic radicals, are obtained by oxidizing polysulphides containing sulphonyl groups and having units of formula where Ar<SP>1</SP> and Ar<SP>11</SP> are the same or different aromatic hydrocarbon or heterocyclic radicals and n is from 1 to 5, in concentrated sulphuric acid. The oxidation may be carried out by reaction with hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, perbenzoic acid, chromium trioxide or with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst. Examples are given.
