Abstract

1,233,316. Vertical lift plant. HAMBURGER FLUGZEUGBAU G.m.b.H. 12 June, 1969 [22 June, 1968], No. 29808/69. Heading B7G. [Also in Division F1] An aircraft has a plurality of lift fans 2, 3 with respective feed housings divided into a plurality of segments each supplied by a branch pipe from each one of a plurality of gas generators, so that if one of the generators fails the thrust is not thereby unbalanced. In the embodiment shown four gas generators 8, 9, 10, 11 have corresponding hot gas pipes 4, 5, 6, 7 provided respectively with branch pipes 14 and 15, 16 and 17, 18 and 19, 20 and 21 which supply gas to two lift fans 2 and 3. A control fan 28 is connected by means of two hot gas pipes 30, 31 to two hot gas compensating pipes 32, 33 which are arranged between branch pipes 15, 17 and 19, 21. Two vertical/horizontal thrust fans 24, 25 powered by generators 26, 27 are arranged on the wings 22, 23 so that their lift thrust lies in a plane 38 in the region of the e.g. of the aircraft the air being deflected by vanes 35 movable into a circular arc as shown in Fig. 4.
