Producers.-In a gas-producer of the single or multiple type, fuel enters by fuel feeders 1 into a smoke chamber 3 from which smoke and fumes escape through a flue 4, and into drying chambers 7 around which air circulates and is heated, and then into furnaces 14 over movable grates 17 beneath which is an ash pan 19. The gases pass out of a chamber 12 surrounding the furnaces through discharge openings 16 to dryers, washers, coolers, and the like. Air may be supplied by air compressors 11 or may be drawn in by a motor in the gas-purifying apparatus. Fig. 5 shows a producer of the quadruple type.
