Abstract

5315. Glover, S., and West, J. April 8. Grates; ash-pits. -- The lower end of a gasproducer is provided with means for discharging ashes comprising an horizontal grate supporting the fuel and ashes and a rotary vane adapted to discharge the ashes over the edge of the grate into a water-sealed receptacle provided with regulable air inlets and means for spraying water on to the ashes upon the grate. As shown in Fig. 1, the bottom of the producer is enclosed by a. casing a having a water seal and a passage h for the removal of ashes. This casing encloses the grate c over which is rotated a curved vane d to discharge ashes. Water is sprayed from the channel g on to the ashes upon the grate, steam being generated which rises through the fuel, and the metal in contact with the ash being kept at a low temperature. Slide-controlled apertures c arranged in the walls of the casing a admit air for combustion.
