Abstract
1,232,592. Spiked plates. HARVEY & CO. Ltd. 15 May, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 22501/ 67. Heading E1W. [Also in Division F2H] Connector plates 1, forming the web of a beam, have projections on both surfaces where the plates are sandwiched between pairs of elongate timber elements 6 constituting the longitudinal booms the projections being inserted into the timber elements. The plates may be arranged at spaced positions along the length of the beam and may have a central web portion strengthened by pressed ribs 2. The projections may be in the form of long nail like projections 3 and/or short triangular projections which may be arranged in groups formed at various angles for ex- ample by being punched out of the plate around the periphery of a hole. The long nail' like projections 3 which may have bevelled points causing deflection of the projections when inserted in the timber elements may be given a longitudinal depression to increase their resistance to bending. Short projections only, in conjunction with hand nailing may be used. At least one of the booms may be constructed by two pairs of timber elements placed end-to-end at an angle of other than 180‹.
