Abstract

1,232,322. Functional fluids; anti-corrosive coatings; heat transfer fluids. E. E. BALDWIN. 9 July, 1969, No. 34668/69. Headings C4A, C4X and C5F. Compositions of 5-95 wt per cent winterized whole grain rice oil, 1-75% white mineral oil, 0À1-50% sebacic acid diester and 0À1-10% oleic acid can be used as cutting oils for metal working, penetrating oils, lubricants for watches, guns, gear-boxes and electric motors, heatexchange mediums and non-drying or drying corrosion-inhibiting coatings for steel. Suitable diesters are dibenzyl sebacate, dibutyl sebacate, dimethyl sebacate, and dioctyl sebacate. A hard drying film can be produced on metals by adjusting the pH of the composition to 6À5- 2À0 with phosphoric acid, acetic acid, nitric acid, acetic anhydride or sulphamic acid. Greases can be made by mixing the compositions with silicas and/or methyl soaps.
