Abstract
1,232,030. Drying and heating coal. SIMONCARVES Ltd. 25 Oct., 1968 [31 Oct., 1967], No. 49383/67. Heading F4G. A process for the treatment of coal to render it suitable for use in coke ovens comprises the steps of thermally drying and heating coal of a size not greater than 1 inch, separating coal which is larger than required from the remainder of the dried and heated coal, crushing the coal which is larger than required and recycling the crushed coal to the drying and heating step, removing relatively fine coal dust from the coal from which the larger than required coal has been separated, passing the relatively fine coal to a bunker and passing the coal from which the relatively fine coal dust has been separated to the bunker. In the embodiment shown coal is crushed by crusher 14 to a size not greater than 1 inch dried, heated in flash-drier 19 (or fluidized bed drier) and elutriated in elutriator 22. Coal of a size greater than # inch is passed to crusher 20 and returned to drier 19. Coal dust is removed from the coal by cyclone 24 and passed to cyclones 26 for removal of waste gases therefrom. The separated coal is further dried and heated in flash-drier 28 and passed via cyclone 30 to bunker 27. The coal dust from cyclones 26 is mixed with oil from line 32 and then passed to bunker 27. The coal may be passed from bunker 27 to hoppers of car 33 which charge coking ovens.
