Abstract
1,231,940. Chargeless electro-photographic processes. RICOH K. K. May 29, 1969 [June 7, 1968], No.27267/69. Heading G2H. A chargeless electro-photographic process comprises firstly determining the boundary exposure Em, of the photo-conductive copy material for a given developer by plotting amount of exposure against density of developed image: Em being defined as the exposure required for maximum image density with the given developer. Exposures greater than Em produce images of the opposite polarity to those formed by exposures below Em and thus, for a given developer, both positives and negatives of an original can be made by exposing to the appropriate quantity of light (visible ultraviolet or infrared) and developing. The developer may comprise a kneaded mixture of a pigment, e. g. carbon black, with an alkyd resin (or octadecylmethacrylate-vinyl diethylaminoethyl ether copolymer, or vinyldodecyl etherdibutylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer, or dodecyl methacrylate-styrene-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer), dispersed in a petroleum hydrocarbon carrier or the developer may comprise pigment, an alkyd resin, (or octadecylmethacrylate-vinyl diethylaminoethyl copolymer, or dodecyl methacrylate-styrene-diethylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer) and a metal salt of a fatty acid (e.g. manganese napthenate, cobalt napthenate, calcium napthenate, zinc stearate), dispersed in a petroleum hydrocarbon carrier.
