Pistons, attaching to rod; cooling.-In order to permit axial adjustment of the piston of a gas, oil, or steam-engine, it is secured to its rod by two nuts C, D, which are preferably countersunk and stepped at c, c', d, as shown. In the case of a water-cooled piston, elastic packing E' is compressed by the nuts, metal rings E being interposed between the packing and the nuts.
