Abstract
123,143. Downton, A. V. Feb. 11, 1918. Cables and compound conductors. - In a multi-core electric cable an insulated conductor is stranded up with the bare strands of all or of two or more of the main conductors to permit of the application to the cable of a protective device. In a construction for three-phase alternating current, the cable comprises two cores 16, 17 of equal cross-section and a third lead formed of two smaller cores 18, 19. The two cores 16, 17 each have an insulated conductor 20 stranded up with them. The protective device, preferably of the kind described in Specification 123,144, [Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.], is operated by the change, caused by a fault, in the current flowing in an insulated conductor and one of the main conductors. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the protective device for the third lead is connected to the conductors 18, 19.
