Abstract
1,231,256. Facsimile apparatus. MUIRHEAD Ltd. 8 July, 1969 [20 Sept., 1968], No. 44845/68. Heading H4F. Facsimile transmitting and receiving apparatus in a common casing is provided with a device whereby, when the device is in a first operating position, the transmitting or receiving apparatus may be used selectively whereas, when the device is in a second position, the transmitting and receiving facilities operate simultaneously, e.g. to permit lining up. As shown the conversion from a receiving to a transmitting condition is effected by rotating a handle 43 to the right, thereby causing a frame 30, normally spring-biased to its left-hand position as in Fig. 1, to be moved to its righthand position as in Fig. 2, in which position it urges an idling roller 14 away from a driven roller 16 and so prevents the recording material 15 from being drawn past the receiving head 3. When the frame 30 is allowed to return to its Fig. 1 position the idler 14 re-engages the drive roller 16 through the recording material 15, the transmitting head 2 is de-energized and the equipment operates in its receiving mode. Simultaneous transmission and reception is made possible by moving a slide 50 attached to the frame 30 against a spring bias so that openings 60 on the slide 50 align with slots 40 in the frame 30. In this position when the handle 43 is pivoted to the right arms 41 attached thereto, which normally extend through the slots 40 to engage the edge of the slide 50 and thus push the whole frame 30 to the right, instead move into the openings 60. The frame 30 therefore remains as in Fig. 1, permitting the idler 14 to engage the drive roller 16 and thus allowing the receiving head 3 to operate simultaneously with the transmitting head 2, which is now energized. Movement of the slide 50 is effected by means of a cam 70.
