[Also in Division H1] A fluid-flow detector has a body 1 housing an adjustable orifice 6 located between its inlet 4 and outlet 5 and an offset chamber 3 connected to both sides of the orifice and including a member 25 moveable against bias in response to pressure difference across the orifice; the member 25 moving a magnet or magnetic member arranged to influence a magnetic detection device. The chamber 3 is arranged to face the advancing fluidflow and the member 25 has a piston head 26 and is arranged to slide in a cylinder 26 which is vented at 22 to the outlet side of the orifice 6. The flow through the orifice 6 may be manually adjusted by a knob 14 which is rotatable to screw a plug 7 into and out of the orifice. At high rates of flow or pressure difference the member 25 may be moved to uncover the vents 22 and to abut an adjustable stop screw 29. The member 25 carries a magnet 24 which at set positions thereof closes the contacts of reed contact units (37, 35) which may be adjustably mounted. A contact unit may alternatively be mounted in the rod 29 for operation by an annular magnet (not shown) on the member 25 or the latter may carry the movable core of an electromagnet to control its inductance.
