Abstract

1,124,313. Delivering measured quantities of viscous liquid. SCOTT PAPER CO. 6 March, 1967 [8 March, 1966], No. 10521/67. Heading B8N. An apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of a viscous liquid, such as glue, to a workpiece such as a moving web of paper comprises a housing 10 defining a chamber 14 for the liquid and a movable member 17 having an edge 18 which together with a wall 11 and a flexible strip 15 defines a measuring chamber 26 such that when the member 17 is moved so that the edge 18 extends outside of the chamber 14, a measured quantity of the viscous liquid is carried on the edge for depositing on to the web; the volume of the chamber 26 may be varied by either changing the thickness of the member 17 or the angle of the edge 18. The liquid may be fed continuously into the chamber 14 via an inlet 25 and an outlet in the opposite end of the housing 10. The movement of the member 17 is effected by a pneumaticallyactuated cylinder 20 under the control of a valve 19. The liquid may be removed from the edge and transferred to the web by means of a projection (36, Fig. 6) on a cylinder (33) or by moving the housing itself by means of a pneumatically actuated piston-and-cylinder device.
