Filter-presses.-In a plate for a filter-press of the type in which a number of bars are held in a frame and support a filtering-cloth, the bars are so formed that they touch each other in the centre and form on each side a set of undercut draining-channels, into which the cloth will not sag. Fig. 5 shows a section of one of the bars, and Fig. 2 a section of the plate with the bars in place. The bars are formed with central ridges b<2>, which touch each other, and grooves b, b, forming the draining channels. The frame may be covered with an acid-resisting material. The plate has a central portion D in which is formed the inlet passage for the liquid to be filtered. The plate may be formed with steam passages connected by .pipes carried on a frame which is packed with the other plates in the press.
