[Also in Division C3] The invention comprises optically active and racemic steroids containing one or more trialkylsilyl-ketoxime groups in the ring and/or in the 17-side chain (if present), the molecules of which compounds are saturated or unsaturated and, as optional substituents, contain esterified or etherified primary, secondary or phenolic hydroxyl groups and/or free, esterified or etherified tertiary hydroxyl groups, ketalized oxo groups, alkenyl or alkynyl groups, or halogen atoms. These compounds are prepared from steroids containing one or more ketoxime groups by reaction with a hexa-alkyl-disilazane in a dipolar aprotic solvent. Any free primary, secondary or phenolic hydroxy groups in the starting material are simultaneously converted to trialkylsiloxy groups, and any free tertiary hydroxyl groups are likewise converted if a trialkylchlorosilane is added to the reaction mixture. The inventive compounds may be dissolved in lipoids to provide pharmaceutical compositions. The nature of the pharmacological activity and the route of administration are not specified.
