Abstract
1,228,944. Bolts. ADOLF HAFELE. 26 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967; 7 May, 1968], No. 45865/68. Heading E2A. In an Espagnolette bolt, i.e. a door or window fastening having a single vertical rotatable rod with hook-bolts at top and bottom ends for engaging fixed pins &c, at least one additional bolt 11 is provided midway between the ends to force the door or window into position even if it is warped. In the form shown in Figs. 1-6, the rotary rod 1 has catch hooks 2 at each end and is rotated by a lock 5 screwed into the door 4. Within the lock, there is a cylinder 7 having a cam-groove 8 accommodating a follower 9 which turns the rod 1 when the cylinder is turned by a key 15. The additional hook 11 projects at this point. The cylinder is retained by a detent 18, Fig. 2, which is displaced by insertion of the key. The key may be replaced by a handle. The lock may be secured to the rear of the door (Fig. 7, not shown). In a modification (Figs. 9-13, not shown) the rod is turned by a pin engaging a helical cam-slot in a sleeve which is axially moved by a handle. In a further form (Figs. 14-16, not shown) the handle has a cam slot by which it turns a wheel having itself a cam-slot which accommodates a pin on the rod to turn it.
