Stoppers, making.-In the manufacture of wooden stoppers, plugs, or like closures for bottles or receptacles by treating the wood of the stopper with heated paraffin wax or similar material, the wood is heated either before or during the treatment, and the wax is forced into the wood under pressure. The previously - heated wooden plug 4 from which the stopper is subsequently fashioned is placed over the open end of a receptacle 1 supplied with melted wax by a pipe 2, and the wax is forced into the longitudinal pores, of the plug by means of a plunger 3. Or the plunger may be stationary and the receptacle movable. The receptacle may be provided with a heating- jacket 6, and the supply of wax may be regulated by a valve operated by the plunger 3. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 77/78 and 9239/03.
