Shaping by pressure.-Wood or the like is heated under pressure until it scorches, in an enclosed mould or between plates; for example, to a temperature of 200‹ C. at a pressure between 10 and 100 kilogrammes per square centimetre. Dyes, chemicals, metallic powders, or fireproofing agents may be added. Plywood, or the separate sheets for making it, may be treated by the method, which is stated to improve the appearance of the wood.
