Processes.-Consists in subjecting clay to high pressure e.g. 300 atmospheres while still unshaped or roughly shaped, forming articles from the compressed mass bv a mechanical operation such as cutting or turning, and.then firing in one or two stages. Pressure may be exerted through a gaseous, liquid or powdered medium. To avoid penetration of a liquid medium, the body mav be coated with rubber or shellac solution or there may be incorporated with the material a little oil. fat or ceresite. The pressure medium may comprise material adapted to leave a coating to serve as a glaze or colouring agent. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that a light preliminary firing may be applied before pressing; also the invention may be applied to gypsum or cement. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specifias accepted.
