Abstract

1,228,571. Universal couplings. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 July, 1968 [31 July, 1967], No. 35052/67. Heading F2U. A transmission coupling comprises two mating part-spherical surfaces 5, Fig. 1, in which projections 10 are provided on one or other of the surfaces, the other or one of the surfaces comprises a plurality of grooves 21, the projections are of plastics material moulded integrally with one of the surfaces and enter the grooves which are dimensioned to transmit rotation from a shaft to an apparatus rotatably supported at two spaced points even when some mis-alignment exists. The component 2 and housing 20 may be of acetal resin e.g. "Delrin" Registered Trade Mark, and collar 3 is an aluminium alloy stamping. The apparatus may be a rotor for a cross-flow fan or blower. Grooves 28 may be provided to reduce the amount of plastics material.
