A length of resilient plastics pipe, 2, split end-to-end, is opened up and slipped over the abutting ends of a pair of pipes to join them. Such a joint is suitable for conduit for insulated cables, or sub-soil drain pipes. The pipe-lengths whether they are formed of clay, plastics, asbestos cement, pitch-fibre, or concrete may have each end rebated to receive the jointing piece (Fig. 5, not shown). Clay pipes may have grooves, 4, so that they can be split into lengthwise halves for fitting around a laid cable, in this case the split plastics pipe serves also to hold the halves of the pipe-length together. The plastics jointing piece may be supplied with the pipe-length, either rolled up to fit inside or fitted to the outside of the pipe.
