A filing cabinet 1, Fig. 1, for storing suspended drawings on spaced pins 9, which extend in a staggered formation transversely of displaceable racks 4 to 7, is provided with a hinged cover 3 and a front wall 2, the latter having a catch device 12 provided with catch bars 13 which then displaced into aligned openings 14, Fig. 6, of webs 10 on which the racks are supported, draw the thus engaged racks forwardly with the pivotal front wall 2 to displace the pins 9, away from one another, such that selected drawings may be removed from the pins or replaced on the pins for suspension. Each rack 4 to 7 is mounted on webs 10 which are fast with the ends of the racks for sliding movement on rollers 11 journalled freely rotatably on the side walls of the cabinet, rearward movement of the racks being limited by a catch 25 integral with the webs 10 and co-operating with a cabinet mounted stop 19 and inadvertent forward movement of the racks is prevented by a latch 18 whose stopping lug 21 co-operates with the opposite face of the stop 19. The pivotal downward movement of the latch 18 is prevented by a lug 22 which abuts the upper edge of the web 10, whereby the latch is released by cam surfaces 23, Fig. 7, on the free ends of the catch bars 13, which are displaced into a selected number of the webs 10 associated with the respective racks 4 to 7 by depression of an operating handle 12 provided along its length with notches (not shown) which are associated with the respective racks 4 to 7. Pivotal movement of the front wall 2 is limited between an inspection position and a drawing removal and replacement position, in which the selected racks are moved away from one another, by a locking pawl 15, Fig. 1, having a respective pair of locking lugs 17, 17<SP>1</SP>.
