Abstract
1,228,198. Hanking cord-like material. H. F. HANSCOM & CO. Inc. 3 Sept., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 41766/68. Heading D1F. A device for hanking a cord-like material comprises a rotatable winder 40 having at least a pair of winding posts, means for controlling rotation of the winder, a pickup member movable between the winder and a wrapping station, a timer for controlling the movement of the pickup member, grasping fingers 139, 140 on the pickup member for gripping a wound cord-like member on the winder, the timer controlling in operation, the grapsing fingers and causing them to deposit the cordlike member at the wrapping station. The pickup member has an arm 129 rotatable in an arc, the grapsing fingers being mounted adjacent the end of the arm and being spring urged to a closed position. A latch is provided for holding the fingers open. The arm 129 is mounted for vertical reciprocation into and out of a gripping position relative to the cordlike member on the winder. The bottom end of a vertical post 120 to which the arm 129 is attached is connected to a rotating cam 182 via a lever 175. The reverse face of the cam 182 is also provided with a groove 188 which engages a bell crank 190 to reciprocate a rack 194 engaging a spur gear 123 on the post 120 and thus rotate the post 120 and arm 129. In operation, motor 13 is switched on and winder 40 is rotated to form a hank. The cam 182 is also rotated and as pin 178 on lever 175 reaches a depression in the groove 180 the post 120 is caused to move downwardly. A system of bell cranks and levers at the top of the post 120 cause the grasping fingers 139, 140 to close around the hank on the winder. At the_same time the bell crank 190 engaging the groove in the reverse side of the cam is caused to pivot to reciprocate the rack 194 and thus turn the spur gear 123. A projection 211 on the cam releases a switch to disengage the brake 206 to the post 120. In a preferred embodiment, the arm is arranged to move through an arc of 90‹, but any angle is permissible.
