Abstract

1,227,894. Colour television tubes. NORTHERN METAL PRODUCTS Ltd. 10 Sept., 1969 [1 May, 1969], No. 44715/69. Heading H1D. A self-supporting rectangular shadow mask comprises an apertured front section surrounded by an imperforate margin in which a continuous strengthening rib is formed, a wall section extending rearward from the margin for about 1¢ inches for a 21-inch or 24-inch tube and including at least one strenghtening rib, a flange section extending inwardly from the back edge of the wall section, and gusset plates rigidly attached to the flange section at its four corners as by welding. Additional gusset plates may be secured to the flange between the corners. The mask is preferably formed from a single sheet of metal and the gusset plates may be of the same metal but preferably twice as thick. The wall section may include a continuous strengthening rib extending round its perimeter, and short additional strengthening ribs at right-angles to the continuous one. Spring-like mounting tabs may be attached to the outside of the wall section.
