Abstract
1,225,087. Colour television tubes. NORTHERN METAL PRODUCTS Inc. 8 Oct., 1969 [9 June, 1969], No. 49455/69. Heading H1D. A shadow mask for a colour TV tube comprises a front face portion 10 having a central perforate area 11, imperforate margin area 12 surrounding the area 11 and extending outwardly therefrom, rear portion 15 of sheet metal with outwardly extending flange 16 rigidly attached, preferably by welding, to the margin area, and rearwardly extending wall 17 with strengthening rib 20 terminating in inwardly extending flange 18, which may be flared rearwardly as at 19 to provide a shielding effect. Rear section 15 is preferably of the same metal and same thickness of face portion 10. Rib 20 may be of a meandering configuration and a number of shallow groove-like ribs (21) (Fig. 2, not shown) transverse to rib 20 may be included while margin area 12 may include rib 13. Three stainless steel mounts (22) (Fig. 1, not shown) attached to wall section 17 by base members (23) welded thereto, have spring-like tongues (24) with openings (26) to engage pins embedded in the glass bulb. Reference is made to conventional fabrication techniques and area 11 may be partially domed on curved, usually aspherically to conform to the inner face of the picture tube. Reference is also made to deep drawn and shallow drawn masks.
