Abstract
1,247,221. Forming grooves in glassware; sealing glass to metal. SOC. DES VERRERIES INDUSTRIELLES REUNIES DU LOING. 11 Nov., 1968 [9 Nov., 1967], No. 53349/68. Heading ClM. [Also in Division H1] A series of parallel equidistant grooves 1<SP>111</SP>b are formed in at least part of the thickness of opposite parts of the rim of at least one of the mating screen and cone portions 1, 2 of a C.R T. glass bulb by forming a mask of wax or lightsensitive material of the desired pattern on the rim and etching the glass with an acid mixture comprising per 10 litres of etching bath 1À94 litres of 95% H 2 SO 4 , 7À00 litres of HF and 1À06 litres of water. Alternatively a train of diamond tipped saws may be used to form the grooves. In the sealing of screen 1 and core 2, a grid 4 of parallel wires is secured by sealing glass 3 in the grooves, the grid being stretched taut in a frame. The wires are then cut off, interconnected by conductive material and covered by glassceramic to protect the seal.
