1,226,283. Magnetic heads. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 May, 1969 [21 May, 1968], No. 25127/69. Heading G5R. A magnetic recording apparatus, in which a record is partly wound on a drum provided with at least one magnetic head which successively scans from one edge of the record to the other, has the or each head bevelled 15 at one trackdefining edge of the gap 14. The upper drum half 2 is rotated in the opposite direction to a tape 9 transported round the drum and consequently the tension in the tape leaving is greater than that approaching the drum. By reducing the contact area in the lower half of the head, the pressure exerted on the head in crossing from one tape edge to the other is maintained constant and there is less loss of signal (Fig. 3, shown). The head, Fig. 4, consists of ferrite core parts 16, 17 with a glass gap-forming material 14. The apparatus may be of the 180 degrees wrap type and provided with two heads.
