In a circuit for generating a sawtooth current in an inductor 8 by periodically closing an electronic switch 1, a further electronic switch 13 is connected between the control electrode of electronic switch 1 and a point of reference potential so as to become conductive when the voltage present in the control circuit exceeds the value of the reference potential in the direction tending to render the electronic switch 1 non-conductive. This arrangement tends to hold the control voltage constant during the cut-off period of electronic switch 1 and thus minimizes the effect of changes in current of EHT rectifier 11 on the timing of the circuit due to coupling via the inter-electrode capacitance of electronic switch 1.
