Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A constant flow regulator comprises a hollow cylinder 40, a piston 45 mounted for axial movement on means 42 and adapted to move in response to a pressure difference across its opposite faces, spring means 51, 52, 53 biasing the piston 45 to one end of the cylinder, the cylinder wall having a series of orifices 56, 57, 58 of varying dimensions, whereby the position of the piston maintains constant flow discharge from the opposite end of the cylinder. High pressure air acts on the top face of the piston (in the direction of the arrows) and passes through the orifices into the cylinder 40 at the low pressure side. If the pressure difference across the faces of the piston increases, the piston moves to close off more orifices on the low pressure side and so regulate the air flow. A pair of plates 71, 72 are movable to cover some of the orifices. Concentric baffles 91 are provided to reduce the noise of the high velocity jet of air. A mixing box 10 (Fig. 1, not shown) is provided with a cylinder (22) and piston (not shown) which, under thermostatic control move the plate valves (27), (28) of the hot and cold air ducts. The mixed air then passes to the constant flow regulator. A by-pass valve, similar to the regulator 40, is provided with just one set of orifices.
