Abstract

Retractive switches. -Switches for light currents, for use with battery lamps for example, consist of a selfcontained unit comprising a metal tube A plugged at one end with insulating material in which the conical-shaped fixed contact C is secured, and a switch member in the form of a metal stamping B, having a split cylindrical part b which makes a spring fit within the inside of the tube, and a spring tongue part b<2> to the end of which a button b<3> passing through the tube is attached. To establish temporary contact, the button b<3> is pressed to fcrce the tongue into engagement with the fixed contact C. The contact is broken when the button is released. By sliding the button sideways, the whole contact member is moved and the end of the spring tongue is forced, with wedge action, into engagement with the fixed contact. The contact member may be slid back to such a position that, when the button is pressed, the end of the tongue is beyond the fixed contact and, consequently, the circuit cannot be established. If the sliding movement is not wanted, the switch member may be a spring strip secured within the tube.
